Afro-Turks
Kölelik çağlar boyu çeşitli şekillerde var olmuştur. Dünyanın her bölgesinde farklı hikayelere sebep olan bu olgudan Türkiye de nasibini almıştır. Osmanlı İmparatorluğu döneminde Afrika’dan getirilen ve imparatorluğun dağılmasından sonra da kaybedilen topraklardan mübadele ile Türkiye’ye göç etmeye zorlanan insanlar günümüzde topluluk olarak varlıklarını ve geleneklerini korumaktadırlar. Toplumsal hayata uyum sağlayan ve sağlamaya çalışan Afro-Türkler, toplumun diğer kesimleri tarafından kabul edilmek istemektedir. Bu kapsamda çeşitli kültürel etkinlikler düzenlemektedirler.
Bu çalışmada İzmir ilinde ikamet eden Afrika kökenli Türk vatandaşlarının sahip oldukları meslekler ve toplumsal konumları fotoğraflanmıştır.
Slavery has always been an issue during the course of the history. Turkey has also been given its fair share of this phenomenon that caused different stories in every part of the World. People who were brought from Africa during the Ottoman rule and were forced to migrate from the lost territories of the empire to Turkey by means of population exchange following the fall of the empire are still preserving their presence and traditions as a community. Afro-Turks who have complied with and have been trying to comply with the social life desire to be accepted by the other social layers. They organise various cultural events in order to achieve this goal.
In this study, the occupations and the social statuses of the African-based Turkish citizens who reside in the province of İzmir are captured.
